Hi, everyone! My name is Aurora Fleming, and I am so happy to be at Erasmus-Gymnasium here in Grevenbroich this school year (2022/23) as an English Teaching Assistant.
I was born and raised in the city of Cleveland, Ohio in the United States of America. Although I had always taken French courses while in school, my family has always had connections to Germany through my grandfather, who originally spoke German in his birth country of Czechoslovakia (modern-day Slovakia), and my mom, who had learned German abroad as a teenager. After hosting an exchange student from Germany in 2013, I decided to attend school for an exchange year in 2016 at Theodor-Heuss-Schule in Pinneberg (near Hamburg), which inspired my love for the German language and culture. In 2021 and 2022, I received two bachelor’s degrees from The Ohio State University in German and International Business, respectively. As evident from my studies, I’m deeply interested in foreign languages/linguistics and how cultural differences impact corporate workplace practices, so I am looking forward to eventually merging these two interests in my future career.
Since September 2022, I’ve been living in Cologne and have loved experiencing so many great places in close proximity! I am also currently registered as a student at the Universität zu Köln. In my free time in the US, I usually like to swim/walk with my dogs on the beach or play tennis, but recently I spend most of my time discovering new restaurants, shops, events, and locations!
Again, I am so happy to be a part of Erasmus-Gymnasium and to have such kind, helpful colleagues and students!
